Wills and Trusts

I’m sure you can appreciate the importance and complexity of estate planning when you have a child with autism.

I’m not going to get into the details as there is an organization called PLAN which does an outstanding job of guiding you through the process. They also maintain a list of lawyers who specialize in constructing wills with disability trusts.

If you don’t want to join PLAN, there are some excellent lawyers who can draw up a will taking into account the needs of your family. Note that the lawyer should have experience dealing with disabilities. A post on the Autism Support Network private Facebook group will garner many recommendations.

Planned Lifetime Advocacy Network (PLAN)

I would strongly suggest becoming an associate member. PLAN obviously has a well thought out strategy and a depth of experience that I could never match. Please check out PLAN

The Family Support Institute

The Family Support Institute (FSI) has some great webinars dealing with wills, trusts and other estate issues. Be advised that they can be a bit wonky with their stance on ABA therapy so please use caution.
