The Disability Travel Card

Easter Seals of Canada has a program called “The Disability Travel Card™”. This enables an attendant to travel free of charge on select bus companies and Via Rail. In addition the disabled person may be entitled to a reduced fare.

Handy Dart

Children over 12 may qualify for a Handy Dart pass if they live in the Lower Mainland.  This gives door–to-door service and reduced fare for an attendant.    Application form is found at http://www.translink.ca/en/Rider-Info/HandyDART.aspx and needs to be signed by medical professional.

BC Ferries

Reduced fares are available for a disabled person and their escort. You must apply beforehand to obtain a Disabled Status Identification (DSI) card. I have used this service myself and found that it works well. Refer to BC Ferries Persons with Disabilities website for more information.
